We arrived at the cabin late on Thursday night, so we just unpacked and went straight to bed. Friday (Matt's actual birthday), Herb (my father-in-law) took Matt fly fishing (which unfortunately I do not have pictures of, but if I get them, I will post!), and Kathy (my mother-in-law), me and Powell went into town to walk around and eat some lunch. We had some delicious steaks that my father-in-law prepared with some yummy potatoes! They were soooo good. Mmmm.... For dessert, we had a yummy turtle ice cream cake with crushed oreo crust. We of course put 2-8 candles on the top and sang to the birthday boy. We ended Matt's birthday playing Mexican Train. It was a good time with lots of laughs. You can get a little punchy when it nears 1 am... :)
Me, Matt and Powell eating Matt's birthday breakfast. Nothing too fancy, just bagels with strawberry cream cheese, cereal and fruit.
Powell's first time at a casino. Most of the restaurants in Cripple Creek are in casinos. We only went there to eat some lunch, but had to document the occasion.
This is the front porch of the cabin. Powell was pointing to a knot in the wood on the bear, calling it a mole.
Happy little camper. He loved pacing around on the porch. Definitely gets the pacing from his daddy.
The beautiful views from the front porch of the cabin. Don't you just love God's creation? Breathtaking.
Playing with g'pa's camera. Powell loved the lens cap.
Blowing out the candles on his cake!
Saturday, we went shooting. Well, we didn't actually have to go anywhere, just basically a little ways from the cabin. It was fun, and I learned how to shoot. Not much at aiming, but I'm still learning. Matt got to shoot a muzzle loader that his dad made when he was 21. He was pretty stoked. Powell had a lot of fun walking around...and falling. He loved it up there! Saturday night Matt and I went on a date. The first date in a looonnnngggg time. We just went into town and played the slots. That's pretty much all there is to do in Cripple Creek at night. It was fun. And don't worry. We didn't leave there down any money. We actually came out with $10 extra. Haha! We didn't take much to begin with. We just wanted to have fun and enjoy each other's company. Powell wandering around while we were getting ready to shoot. He loved it up there!
My little outdoorsman. :)
Getting ready to shoot! Do I look like a natural or what? haha
Matt shooting one-handed! I wasn't brave enough to try that. The gun had a little too much kick for me.
Herb with his muzzle loader!
Matt shooting the muzzle loader.
Sunday morning after breakfast, me, Matt and Powell went on a little hike with our new-to-us Kelty. Our new next door neighbors gave us their old Kelty, which was in great shape! Powell didn't like getting in it at first, but enjoyed it while we hiked. Matt was not nice to me either! He was taking me down hills and up hills, and I am not in shape! It killed me! You would think, since he has the weight of a baby and the pack, it would slow him down and make him tired. Not so. Whew! What a hike! After lunch on Sunday, we came home. A good time was had by all!! Happy birthday baby!!! A quick family picture before we headed out on our hike.
Powell peeking out of the Kelty.
His little feet.
My 2 boys.
